Series 320 Extended Travel Balance
The Series 320 extended travel block and tackle window balance is somewhat less common balance than our standard Series 400 or Series 300 block and tackle balance. These balances may look similar, but there are some key differences that make it so these balances are not interchangeable. Continue reading to learn how to identify your balance. These balances function the same as our series 130 extended travel balance. Please contact us if you have an extended travel balance and we will help you find the correct replacement.
Stamp
Normally, the stamp on the balance is a key identifying feature. However, the stamp on the Series 320 and the Series 300 are identical which can make them appear to be the same. In this case, the stamp will not tell you which balance you have. To definitively identify your balance, you will have to look and the length of the metal channel and the bottom guide.
Notice how the two stamps are identical.
Length
One of the key identifying features of the Series 320 balance is the length of the metal channel. The metal channel for the Series 320 is shorter than it is for the 300 series. In our example, the Series 300 balance is 13" long, whereas the Series 320 is about 12-5/8". In our experience, the length of the Series 320 can be between the 5/8" and 7/8" mark but is always shorter than a standard Series 300 balance.
Bottom Guide
The bottom guide on the Series 320 is probably the most noticeable difference between the two balances. The Series 320 bottom guide is what makes the balance an extended travel balance. There is a roller located within the bottom guide. This roller and its location allow for the balance to have an additional amount of travel.
Notice how the Series 320 bottom guide (top) has a roller and attachment hook inside the guide. The Series 300 balance has its attachment hook located above the guide.
The Series 320 Series balance is a custom special ordered balance and is not available online. If you think you have an extended travel balance, give us a call at 1-800-842-0974 and a sales representative can discuss your options with you.
